A profound expression of the Japanese language, mono no aware is the idea of being sensitive to the fleeting nature of existence. The term infers a deep melancholy caused by the inevitable decay of things, but also a sense of appreciation and gratefulness.

Those mixed feelings make up a large part of the creative foundation of PINK GOLD. There is so much life and beauty in the world, yet so little time to make it yours. The recordings presented to you here are a slice of everyday life unfolding at its most compellingly ordinary: an unskilled player trying to find peace in his hardware output, with loved ones in the kitchen and the smell of pancakes in the air. The tracks were improvised and captured live in one take, without plugins or overdubs and only a touch of Ableton mastering afterwards.

On a more subconscious level, the music is informed by working as a geriatric nurse in a hospital ward, where every shift is a reminder of the slow but inevitable process of aging and withering - but also a reminder of how resilient a human body can be and how much joy of life can remain at a very old age.

The resulting soundscape is muted and lingering, low in fidelity but high in melancholy. An invitation to let the mind loose in bittersweet daydreams, nightly ponderings or whatever else the moment calls for.
